Socialist Left calls for extraordinary convention

The recent decision of deploying new soldiers to Afghanistan has created havok in the Norwegian Gouvernment where The Socialistic Left acts like they are 100% in charge of the Norwegian Foreign and Military politics (they have the minister of finance in the gouvernment only).

What we are facing here is the risk of Norwegian soldiers in Afghanistan not allowed to help out their brothers in arms as the Brits did in Maymaneh when the Norwegian/Scandinavian soldiers faced slaughter, and the gouvernment breaks the "one for all, all for one" rule NATO is based on risking our NATO membership and NATO support in case of severe trouble on the northern flank.

Right now I am deeply ashamed of being a Norwegian with a gouvernment that is run by a party with less than 10% of the voters.

The important issues marked in bold red below.

Following the growing internal opposition to the coalition government's Afghanistan policy, the Socialist Left Party (SV) has decided to call an extraordinary national convention for Friday to discuss the controversial issue.

SV apparently suffered another policy set-back when the coalition government led by the Labour Party, with partners SV and Agrarians (Center Party) on Tuesday announced that Norway would send another 150 soldiers to Afghanistan.

A minority within the SV parliamentary group is said to be opposing party leader Kristin Halvorsen on this issue, and many SV politicians voiced the view that SV should now leave the coalition.

Also, many are indignant over the fact that the party's central organs were not informed beforehand of the Government's Afghanistan decision.

The SV Central Committee at an extraordinary meeting Wednesday afternoon met to discuss the controversial issue, and decided to call the extraordinary national convention for Friday.

The most controversial point is whether or not the Norwegian troops may be sent to the troubled southern Afghanistan or not.

Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg maintains that the new Norwegian contingent is to be posted Kabul, where it will used on mainly non-fighting missions. He says the troops cannot be sent to fight in other parts of Afghanistan without the agreement of the Norwegian government.

However, at the NATO summit in Riga in November, the leaders of the NATO member countries, including Norway, agreed that in a crisis situation, all NATO forces may be sent to wherever they are needed.
