Soccer

I think so, since Allemannia Aachen only plays second league and it doesn't seem like a test- game. Didn't watch the match myself...

Today the Spanish League list came out:

First matches AUG 30: http://www.soccerway.es/national/spain/primera-division/2009-2010/regular-season/

The Classic NOV 29th and APR 6th, first in Barcelona, then in Madrid.

There is a nice yahoo online game for the liga (build your own team - within a realitvely corect comparative money fund range - and score according to real life events; possibility to change players every week; good stats to work on; buddy groups to compete vs. other groups, etc), but it has not started yet here http://es.superliga.fantasysports.yahoo.com/football

I will let you know when we can start building our teams, I challenge everyone here to beat me (lets play for a small beer as prize? :) )

Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka... what will it be for Real Madrid next season? Another Los Galacticos 2.0?? (We all know how that ended up!)

Some good vids from my favorite Club- Hamburg (HSV)
My favorite soccer player- great technique and he scores the most important goals:
Trochowski

Petric, also amazing technique in front of the goal he's just amazing, was hurt a long time but now he's back!
Petric

I hope HSV will qualify for Champions League this season, they certainly did deserve it last time- but they were unlucky at the end, they had a good season...
Best of

I'll defenitely go to the arena to watch some games...

What's interesting is that somehow I actually know quite a few womens professional players personally. Didn't go looking for them or anything... life just kinda went that way.

Crap.....Mexico beats US....again. :bang: At least, I'm glad the football season is here!!!! :D

Ok, the challenge for the Spanish Fantasy League is on:

You can now start building your teams chosing RL Spanish League players here: http://es.superliga.fantasysports.yahoo.com/

It is completely free, I challenge everyone out here to beat my team "St. Elm Serpientes" (initial selection: http://es.superliga.fantasysports.yahoo.com/football/30615), for the price of a nice beer... :)

Rules are simple: You have to register with yahoo, then enter the superleague, then create a team.

- Chose a system (5-3-2, 4-4-2, etc, go to the "coach" page ("Entrenador" tab) and fill the slots with players, keeping inside your budget available (100 miillions). FYI: in Spanish the defenders are "defensas", midfields "centrocampistas", and strikers "delanteros".

Example: Christian Ronaldo atm costs 30 millions, Messi also (you can see Messi made most points opverall last year with 440p). Last years winning team had 2500p+

You will be prompted with a huge variety of (last season) data to faciliate your choices, players (your team) will be evaluated according to the actual games they play, both defensive as offensive qualities are evaluated and rewarded (e.g. a goalie scores 3p for playing to zero, but also the defenders score one point each in this case).

You can change players (according to budget, their price tags rise and fall through the season according to their performance and the market needs) every week until nest league match day, 1200 CEST.

Current limit for team building is SAT, AUG 29, 1230 CEST.

In case you need help with any translations, let me know.

Who at the end of the season has the most points, wins.

Any takers?

well, did not fare too well the first day, only 42 points (day winner made 130), first classification: #6649... :( Most points through the goalie, Moya, who kept his box at zero... :)

But, I made some profit (market price of 4 of my players went up so I now have a team worth 103.8) and remodeled my team slightly (had three players that had not turned up, changed from 4-4-2 to 3-4-3), and while my strikers didn´t score on day 1 I am positive they sooner or later will, Aguero and Benzma are the material... :)

My team for day 2 now looks like that:

Next match day SEP 13, so you all can still enter... :)

Remember all those awesome soccer commercials? Well here they have them all!

Ok ok.
I joined in..

3-4-3 formation

GK: Andres Palop (Sev)
DF: Filipe (Dep), Capdevilla (Vil), S. Ramos (RMad)
MF: F. Soriano (Alm), L. Diarra (RMad), J Valeron (Dep), X. Alonso (RMad)
FW: D. Villa (Val), Mista (Dep), G. Franco (Vil)

Really wished Mista would put on that performance that he put on in the 2003/2004 season for Valencia. I think it was that season he did real well and wasn't picked for Euro 2004 anyway.

Great!

Name of your team? Mine are "St. Elm Serpientes" ("San Telmo Snakes", in English).

JFDR, taking the challenge, ignore the points of day 1, we take it from day 2. For results, go here: http://es.soccerway.com/national/spain/primera-division/2009-2010/regular-season/ (you can chose language on the right, hitting the "I" button after every result gives you the scorers and the line-up).

FYI: Sergio Ramos is injured, does not play for 2 weeks.

Palop: Good choice (but expensive, hence my bet o Moya, young but good); Villa will bring you a *lot* of points, would have been my preference but left me w/o money for the midfield. Xavi Alonso also a good bet, glad I got him so cheap (he will be around 15-20 end of season, price wise); Valeron? we will see, he is old, but a genious, if he does not get injured, great perspective!. Capdevilla is a bank, S. Ramos not always, and the other guy I do not know. Anyway, your striker (Franco) against my defense next match (Nunes)... :)

Personally, I expect a lot of Tuni, saw him play many times live, he is *good* (and I never understood why he didn´t count for Manzano). Now that the coach does not have alternatives he has a chance to prove it.
