Sloped internal armor belts VS. external bolted angle plate

Ok...........let the forum begin. If there is ever going to be an argument about WW2 British BBs vs WW2 US BBs, its gotta start there.
 
Lemme be the first

Its a fundamental difference in basic design philosophies. You have a thin outer hull to act as a burster plate, and let the internal plate deflect and/or absorb the force of the armor penetrating round......OR......you hang 14 or so of plate armor on the outside and let it take the hit and there is no need for a burster plate or even a substantial backing plate.
