BAGHDAD, Nov 20 (AFP) - A US marine was killed by a roadside bomb in western
Iraq on Saturday, bringing to six the number of US servicemen killed that
day in the war-torn country, the military said Sunday.

The marine was killed when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device
during combat operations near Hadithah, close to the Syrian border, where US
forces have been involved in a wide sweep to root out insurgents.

The military had earlier announced that five soldiers were killed Saturday
in two separate bomb attacks near Baiji, north of Baghdad.

The lastest US death bring to at least 2,091 the number of US military
personnel killed in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion, according to an AFP
tally based on the independent Iraq Coalition Casualty Count.
