BAGHDAD, Nov 4 (AFP) - Six Iraqi soldiers were killed and 10 wounded in a
dawn battle with insurgents at a checkpoint in northern Baghdad, a military
source said Friday.

The attack took place on the day that most Shiite Arabs in Iraq celebrate
Eid al-Fitr, the holiday that marks the end of the Muslim holy month of
Ramadan.

Since the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq the holiday season has often been
characterized by an increase in insurgent attacks.
