well it's election year here (4 days away in fact) and i love it. hell it's almost high drama

certianly no where near the mud slinging you have in US presidential races, but enough to keep it interesting.

this website is the find of the NZ election though;

http://www.labour.net.nz/gonebylunchtime/

it's called "gone by lunchtime" in reference to a comment made by our opposition leader who stated that if he got in the Nuclear free NZ legislation would be "gone by lunchtime"....then he tried denying he ever said that...
Hehe Brash is an idiot an I have no doubt he will be the butt of political satire for years to come but who knows now that he is offering a free tank of gas to everyone if he gets elected he very well could be the next PM.

Yes!!

I am sick to the point of being tempted by the life of a reclusive hermit, all for the agony of current politics. What bothers me the most is that the majority of the candidates seem to think they can gain votes with mud-slinging tactics.

The surest way to lose my vote is by trying to make your opponent look bad. That tells me you don't have what it takes to lead on your own merit, so you will do anything to make me think you are the lesser of the evils.

A true, qualified leader will stand his ground, even in the face of ridicule. He will fight to accomplish what he feels is in the best interest of the country he serves, regardless of public opinion. A true leader, an effective leader, is not afraid to admit mistakes, and to learn from them.

I fear my country is very rapidly running out of that kind of leader.

im sick of politics because in america, things always go against my ideals. more and more it seems, that laws and statutes are being passed just to make sure people dont argue. whether or not these statutes are right or wrong, who knows? better yet, who cares? theyre not arguing, so let them do what they want. im not impressed washington. make our nation a moral one like it once was. once that happens, all our problems will fix themselves.

I've been sick of it since before the 2004 election. Politicians wrangled for months over stupid crap and thousands of citizens die in New Orelans now. They fight like highschool kids over stupid crap and people die due to their incompetence.

That's why I hate politics.

Rather like Tom tom it is not the politics that are wrong it is the politicians that annoy me. If only they would do what is right rather than what will get them an extra couple votes, most of them I find a slimy bunch of turds who would sell their mothers to stay in office.

Have you ever seen these guys, mostly Senators, act like they hate each other's guts. They cast aspersions on the accuracy of each other's birth certificates and then you see them out at parties leaning on each other, drunk and laughing. Now that's politics and that's why there is no need to argue for one or the others position on anything because everything is negotiable or for sale to them.

This current round of political party bickering/backstabbing started with Watergate and has been escalating since then. Every president since Nixon has had to "win" over congress to get anything accomplished, and many "minority" members have seemed more interested in slamming the majority than in doing what's best for this country. After the current President Bush won his first term, there was a wholesale cleaning out of appointed staff. While this always happens with high-level appointees, and often happens with most appointees during the first 4 years, Bush replaced a huge number of lower appointees who normally would have aided in the transition and flow of information. I've read a number of articles suggesting that had this "party cleansweep" not occured, there's a good chance the faulty information flow that allowed 9/11 would not have happened.

At some point the party bickering just has to stop, and the only way I see that happening is for a viable 3rd party to emerge with at least 10% of the seats in Congress. This new variable would at least force the two main parties to try and compromise somehow or many actions requiring a majority vote simply won't happen. Unfortunately, most of the "3rd" parties we have now are so fringe or fanatical that Americans can't support them. What do you all think about a "military" or "patriot" party?

Any party remotely resembling or hinting of military would be pushing the Constitution. The last successful bid was the Bullmoose Party of President Theodore Roosevelt. Even though he ran things like a General he made sure that there was no perception of a non civilian sub-Government. A party platform requiring Patriotism would be under constant attack by the left as being exclusive of Communists and Socialists the same way the ACLU is going after the Boy Scouts for not allowing Gay Scout Masters.
