Well?

I was thinking on this earlier, Googled it, and it said that most states after a felon has served his/her prison time they are allowed to vote again.

I don't think felons should be ever allowed to vote after their prison time is over if it was a serious crime. (i.e. Those found guilty of rape, felony, child molestation, murder...).

Nope.....

You violate the law, break you social contract with society, and threaten your fellow man. You lose all your rights. You're not a productive member of society. Why should you been given the same rights as one?

I went yes after they have completed their sentence (personally I would like that extended to any parole terms as well), our justice system is supposed to be one that allows people to serve their sentences and return to the public fold as active members of society it is not meant to be an on going system of punishment.

If people are considered able to live in the public eye, pay taxes and live normal unconfined lives then they have every right to vote in their nations elections, if they do not meet these requirements then they should still be in prison.

It used to be that when you were released you were considered to have paid your debt to society.

I agree with pixiedustboo on this one. No one should be allowed to vote from prison, and the most serious offenders should never be allowed to vote again even once they are out.

Once, they're out and done with all terms and sentences, they should be allowed to vote again.
Truth is, for people with only one offense, I have difficulty with the whole thing of a criminal record. It just makes it impossible for them to get a job and integrate even if they wanted to. Hell it's hard enough to get a job even without a record. So what do they have to turn to? MORE CRIME!

Only if their rights are restored by the Court.

As far as voting while on parole they are still in the custody of the state and serving a sentence. They haven't completed the terms of their conviction.

I can somewhat see that, depending on what the crime was.

Violent rape murder and child molestation though...I see no point in ever letting them out into society again, letting alone letting them vote again. They obviously have impaired judgment. (At least, IMHO).

Are you allowed to vote in the above poll if you have been to prison?
Well, depends on one's crime.

If you've already served your sentence I suppose by popular vote, yes, you may. :D

Well, I've never been to prison yet, except when I play Monopoly, but i do like Johnny Cash. I was once banned for life from soccer, on account of bad language, altho' the decision was later reversed.

If that doesn't disbarr me, I'll vote in the poll that I believe that those in prison should not vote. Damn - too late!

In that case it should be a life sentence or a death sentence.

I don't think people who can't read at a minimum level should be allowed to vote, how can they make an informed disicion? Maybe in order to vote a person needs to join the landed class?

Truth is I think they need to pass a universal exam in high school after taking a course that lasts a year in order to be eligible to vote. Shoot, passing the test should be a high school requirement.
Nothing spectacular. Just a course that teaches them about how the system works in the rough. If they don't care enough to go to that class and learn and pass the exam, they don't earn their right to vote. And yeah it should be pretty easy so there's no "Oh but our school system is so bad..." excuse.

In my opinion doing time means two things:
a) punishment for commited crimes
b) resocialisation.

If you only punish in prison you release even tougher criminals. If they have not been taught to function as a normal participant in our society, you know what they will do. I rarely hear about the second part of punishment and I reckon it is too easily forgotten. Strip them of all their social rights and you'll leave them with nothing.
