Topic: Short-timer stories and jokes

As a Marine veteran (1969-1973) who was later trained in and now teaches folklore at a university here in the southern U.S., I have been interested in military folklore for quite some time.

This is my first post on this forum, and I am currently collecting short-timer jokes and/or related stories. Specifically, I'm interested in stories or one-liners from Vietnam veterans regarding their discharge from the military or DEROS (Date of Estimated Return from Over Seas), their short-timer status. The one I remember hearing most often was "I'm so short, I can sit on the edge of a dime and swing my legs."

I look forward to reading responses from those who heard or used some of these expressions.

One of the sayings we had in the RAF was, "Roll on death, its sooner then demob."
