Sgt York

In 03USMC's vein of continuing the discussion:

What rank was he when he performed his act that merited the Medal of Honor?

Okay for two points what was the name of the valley in Tennesse that York was from and who was the famous frontiersman who settled it.

Valley of the Three Forks of the Wolf, Fentress Co.. TN Closest city Pall Mall.

David Crockett.

One point. You got the valley. The frontiersman was Daniel Boone. There was a tree near where York grew up on which had been carved the words "Daniel Boone kilt a bar here". It was still visible to York many, many years later. He brought settlers to the Pall Mall.

Head of the Regional/District Selective Service Board. War Bond Tours. All after FDR and George Marshall turned down his offer to serve "with regret".

It was Camp later Fort Gordon.

I knew it was Georgia, 03USMC. Just couldn't remember where.

Yep, ironic as hell that the man who had such reservations about military service to start with should wind up head of his local draft board.

Okay next one:

In his engagement that merited the award of the Medal of Honor, how many Germans did York kill? An approximate number will suffice.

Correct.

We're probably running out of Sergeant York material but here's at least one more:

Before he became an avid Christian York was a hell raiser. Drank, gambled and visited saloons to a great extent. What finally made him give up that course of his life?
