KIRKUK, Aug 26, 2006 (AFP) - Police on Saturday found seven bodies of men
shot dead in apparent sectarian killings in northern Iraq, while rebels
killed an Iraqi soldier in a roadside bomb attack in the same area, police
said.

Four handcuffed and bullet-riddled bodies were found on the highway between
the northern cities of Kirkuk and Tikrit, while three bodies were recovered
from near Tikrit.

In a separate incident an Iraqi soldier was killed when insurgents attacked
his patrol with a roadside bomb, police said, adding three other soldiers
were wounded.

A senior police officer was wounded in a similar roadside bombing in eastern
Kirkuk, while insurgents threw a grenade at a police patrol in which 10
people were also wounded, including three policemen.
