Serbia’s pro-West parties reached a power-sharing deal to form a new government, said Tomislav Nikolic, the hard-line Parliament speaker lawmakers elected this week. The agreement averts the possibility that his ultranationalist Radical Party will regain power. The independent broadcaster B-92 said that the agreement was reached in an overnight meeting between President Boris Tadic and the caretaker prime minister, Vojislav Kostunica, whose talks on a cabinet had been deadlocked for nearly four months after an inconclusive election, and that it included a plan to replace Mr. Nikolic as speaker, the No. 2 post in the country. If the government is not formed by Tuesday, new elections would have to be called, which would benefit the Radicals.
