Separation of Church and State

Then you see that there are parts of the bible and parts of Christianity that can make for very bad governanace and hence why America is NOT a christian nation.

It's best to take the best of the Christian culture and incorporate it into mainstream American culture.

But it's okay to slaughter children as long as god tells you to do that. And our country needs to be run according to god.

First, it was the choice of the soldiers to "slaughter children" not a command. Second, thats what Ive said all along. I said that if Judeo-Christian ethics and morals were incorporated into American law, America would be a far better and stronger country. I never said America is a Christian country, but it is founded on Christian though by people among whom were mostly Christian.

I agree with behemoth on this, on its founding the US was mostly Christian.

As far as the second part I agree, Christ as the focus rather than the old testament. Most Christians go along these lines anyways.

Few who support this are in favor of a state church, something I would definately oppose. What I do oppose (something that has been lost in this discusion) is there seems to be a move today to completely eradicate all traces, roots, and the principles of Christianity from government, which I think is gone too far, and is actually harmful in the long run.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Uh PC? Vermont is the 14th state. We entered the Union in 1791. I doubt folks were much concerned with PC terminology then.

As an atheist praise G-d I am so happy with the American and French revolutions which threw out the church from State rule. The Church practiced collective punishment of the Jewish people throughout its oppressive rule over Europe. Separation of Church and State secular people told the religious nuts to take a hike. You want to believe ... that's your right. You want to force your beliefs down other peoples throats ... I prefer cutting the balls off of beasts who carry their religion on their sleeves.

Seperation of Church & State isn't in the Constitution, it's mearly a comment in a letter by Jefferson. What the Constitution says is the Senate(US Govt) can't establish an Official Church. The letter didn't say God & State either, Church is an Organization, & the concept of a religiously sterile Govt is a relatively new concept, in the last 50 yrs or so. Biblical refrences are all over Federal buildings in D.C., Congress payed for Bibles in the early yrs, & Church services were held in the Capitol builing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

The Establishment Clause prohibits the federal, state or municipal establishment of a religion or other preference for one religion over another, non-religion over religion, or religion over non-religion.
Originally, the First Amendment applied only to the federal government. A number of the states effectively had established churches when the First Amendment was ratified, with some remaining into the early nineteenth century.
