Sending things to a recruit/midn

I have a friend who is currently undergoing Sea Trials at the US Naval Academy (think Boot Camp). He gave us his snail-mail address over there so we could keep in touch with him.

My question is, what can I send that won't get him hassled or into trouble? Would he get in trouble if we sent snacks and other little aid packages? Should I just stay safe and send a postcard or letter? I think he'll be happy to get anything from us, but I'd like to know the limits.

Best bet is stick to the motivational/supportive letters if you truly don't want to give him grief. If you don't care one way or the other:

Send him a package full of goodies with a note on the outside "Please make sure to share with the Training Cadre."

Plebe Summer is basically a lockdown when it comes to food and such. Stick to letters for now, and you can send care packages starting in August. Mail takes about 2-3 weeks to clear Academy security (irradiation and all that fun stuff), so send ASAP.
