Members of Navy SEAL Team 3, based in Coronado, received medals for bravery at a special ceremony yesterday in Washington, D.C.
At the ceremony in the Pentagon's central courtyard, the medals were presented to 11 SEALs by Admiral Eric Olson, chief of the U.S. Special Operations Command.
The SEALs lined up onstage under a large white awning as a Navy official read the medal citations.
At an earlier ceremony yesterday, the name of another member of SEAL Team 3, Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael Anthony Monsoor, was enshrined in the Pentagon's Hall of Heroes. Monsoor posthumously received the Medal of Honor on Tuesday at the White House.
Monsoor leapt on top of an enemy grenade to save his SEAL comrades during a September 2006 firefight with insurgents in Ramadi, Iraq.
