Major Gen. Thomas R. Turner II relinquished command of the 101st Airborne Division to Maj. Gen. Jeffrey J. Schloesser in a Thursday ceremony at Fort Campbell, Ky. Schloesser’s most recent assignment was with the National Counterterrorism Center in Washington, D.C., where he served as the deputy director in strategic operational planning. Help Someone Today! Turner was commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division since May 14, 2004. He is slated to receive his third star at the start of his next assignment as commanding general of Fifth U.S. Army at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Schloesser has served several tours at Fort Campbell. He was previously assigned as the assistant division commander (support) for the 101st from June 2003 to June 2004. He also commanded two battalions with 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.
