Judge: Calif. ghost fleet breaks pollution laws

SAN FRANCISCO — A federal judge ruled Thursday that a fleet of rotting warships anchored near San Francisco Bay is in violation of federal and state pollution laws.

Judge Garland E. Burrell Jr. ruled in U.S. District Court in Sacramento that the Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet was in violation of the federal Clean Water Act.

I made a donation to save her. a group wants to move her to mare island at Vallejo for restoration. she was the lead lead in her class. the other one are AUX's that served in Nam. im surpried their still around

no. the state will not contribute a cent. its up to us the private sector. strange??? that's and understatement !!!!

I assume the Navy. this is or was called pack rat fleet. we used to go over there and cannibalize parts from them.

All of these ships are Navy owned & in reserve. Unless sold outright, display ships, such as the Alabama, still belong to the Navy.

I was wondering if the state of Iowa was involved. I ran into this article

Representatives of the California group seeking to save the U.S.S. Iowa battleship were recently at the state capitol building in Des Moines to try and gain attention and more funding for the effort. Marilyn Wong is a spokesperson for the Historic Ships Memorial at Pacific Square on Mare Island where the Iowa is docked.

the Wisconsin found a home in Norfork last year. the New Jersey has a home in in Camden. but still needs funding for repairs. as far as i know the Missouri is fully funded by the Government
