Sampling Local Cuisine

THE USS Chicago pulled into Yokosuka, Japan, for a port call. "Men," the Marine second lieutenant addressed his troops, "I want you to experience the local culture. Don't eat things you can get at home. Sample Japanese food!"

At the end of the visit, the officer approached a private from the Midwest. "Hartley," he asked, "what did you eat that was different?"

"A corn dog, sir."

"A corn dog? You can have one in any small town in America!"

"Oh, no, sir," Hartley said. "This was different -- I put soy sauce on it."
