Topic: Salute!

EVERY TIME MY HUSBAND, John, a chief petty officer, drove through the back gate of the Naval Air Station at Alameda, Calif., he seemed to encounter the same Marine guard, who would invariably salute him. One afternoon John stopped and asked, "Private, how come you salute me every time I come through?"

"Well, chief," the Marine explained, "I salute everybody. That way, I stay out of trouble and help make everyone's day. It sure makes mine!" With that, he gave my husband a smart salute and a cheery smile. It did indeed make John's day.
