May 14, 2008 Science Applications International Corp. and several other companies with operations in San Diego were among 26 firms awarded a maximum $12.2 billion contract from the Defense Information Systems Agency. Under the five-year Encore II contract, the companies will compete to provide services related to improving the military's ability to share information via computers.
BAE Systems, Computer Sciences Corp., Northrop Grumman Corp. and Raytheon Co., which have links to San Diego, were also awarded a piece of the project. Deb Alderson, SAIC group president, said the contract would enable the company “to build upon relationships” with the agency. SAIC participated in the Encore contract awarded in 2002. The new contract can be extended up to 10 years.
