Browsing through the listings last night & noticed "Sahara". Flipped up to it expecting the recent McConahey(sp?) movie, but the 1st thing I saw was a Grant tank, hadn't noticed it was on Turner Classic Movies channel. Eventually I realized I had seen it @ some point in the past, but wasn't badly done for a 1943 movie. How many times do you see Grants on film?

The remake was fun.
Played one of the Germans, and got to run up and down the sandhills of Stockton beach for a week. Hot and sweaty work, but got to see how a movie is made.
Jim was a strange bloke, but some of the guys got on the piss with him in Newcastle and said he was alright.
Most of the equipement was supplied by a local fellow who hoarded military gear in his sheds at home.

Seems like they tried to redo it word for word and it simply did not work.

Really don't know why they bothered.

I like Belucci, but he looked silly trying to deliver a Bogey impersonation.

Im not quite sure what it lacked, the Aussie actors did pretty poor impresions of English soldiers and the actor playing the Aussie is appalling in both accent (he's an aussie playing an aussie) and the delivery of his lines. Stuck up prick as well.
But, for all its worth, its a war movie and not too many of them get made.
