AMMAN, Jordan_Saddam Hussein's chief lawyer said Sunday the defense team
will continue to boycott his genocide trial against the Kurds.

"Based on a meeting I had with President Saddam Hussein on Oct. 2 and
because of repeated violations by the court, the defense team announces that
its boycott of the hearings will continue," said Khalil al-Dulaimi, an Iraqi
lawyer who leads a nine-member team defending the deposed Iraqi leader.

The ousted president and six others have been on trial since Aug. 21 for the
Operation Anfal crackdown on Kurdish rebels in the late 1980s. The
prosecution says about 180,000 people, mostly civilians, were killed.

The trial, Saddam's second, is scheduled to resume Monday in Baghdad.
