BAGHDAD, Oct 27 (AFP) - The court trying ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein
is to be known as the Iraqi High Tribunal instead of the Iraqi Special
Tribunal, the court announced Thursday.
The name change follows a parliamentary decision, the court said.
The court started to try Saddam Hussein and seven of his former henchmen on
October 19 on charges related to the 1982 massacre of Shiite civilians from
the village of Dujail. The case was adjourned until November 28 after Saddam
and his co-defendants pleaded not guilty.
The court was set up in December 2003 by the US-installed provisional
authority to try Iraqis accused of crimes against humanity and war crimes
committed between 1968 and 2003, when Saddam's regime was overthrown.
The Dujail case is the first to come to trial before the court.
