ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - A man robbed a good Samaritan who had helped pushed his truck to a nearby gas station, police said.
Darvin Wayne Capps, 25, of York, was charged with strong-arm robbery in the incident, in which he pulled a razor blade and stole a necklace, according to a police report.
"It's getting to the point that it's hard to be a good Samaritan because you don't know who you're stopping to help," police Lt. Jerry Waldrop said.
Kevin Tucker, 21, said he will be more careful in the future, but still plans to help people when he can.
"Everybody's not like that," Tucker said.
According to the police report, Tucker and his girlfriend noticed a truck in the road around 2 a.m. Monday.
The driver asked the couple for money and a push to a gas station. Tucker used his car to push the truck and the driver asked again for gas money and to use a cell phone.
After using the phone and giving it back, the man pulled out a razor blade and started swinging at Tucker, according to the report.
Tucker's forearm was scraped. He said the man drove off after yanking off his necklace. Police later arrested Capps, who had the broken necklace on him, according to the report. He remained in custody Wednesday.

Frakking scum..... That just pisses me off. Good folks can't be good folks anymore because of the scum running around in today's society.

Well, that's why I live by this simple rule.

Be polite. Be professional. But... have a plan to kill everyone you meet. Be courteous to everyone. Friendly to no one. Your number one option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

I always watch everyone's hands. See what they're up too, see who is around me, and I always try to keep a bit of space between me and other folks when I can. Space is a tactical lifesaver.

I always try to be helpful to folks that need it but I keep my distance from them. I've pulled over at night to help folks with a flat. But I now only do it for older folks and women. Not because I want some tail but because I believe that a man can take care of himself. Old folks because they're old.

Even when among my Marines I try to keep one arm+ distance. I know that it seems odd when among people you would trust, but it forms a habit for when among civilians that can give you that split second reaction time.

Had a few of these incidents up North too last year but with a twist of "play dead on the road" to flavour the show. When people stopped to help the guy his mates came out of the bushes and robbed the people and stole their cars. The last "play dead show" happened two kilometers from my office building in a heavily trafficed junction, the cops found the stolen cars but CD players and other equipment removed (what a surprise...).

I feel ya Marinerhodes, I do the same and I never let anyone come up behind me... not even my little middle school students, never sit with my back to a door (Wild Bill's fatal mistake) and having lived among the heathens I have been cured of my good samaritan inclinations. We're devolving as a species.
