Norway's Defense Ministry was boosting its preparedness after Russia sent more bombers on training missions near Norwegian air space last week.

"We have strengthened our preparedness in the north, and sent extra fighter jets to Bodø," state secretary Espen Barth Eide told newspaper Aftenposten over the weekend."

His comments came after more Russian bombers were spotted off the Norwegian coast on Friday. Norwegian fighter jets were sent out several times to monitor the Russians' flights, and make sure they stayed out of Norwegian territory.

The Russian flights come just a few weeks after an earlier set of what the Russian military is calling "training exercises." The Norwegians consider the flights a power play on the part of the Russians.

"Russia wants to make it clear that we should view them as a superpower," Barth Eide said. "At the same time, they want to prove that they have the resources to carry out such exercises."

He stressed that Russian officials had notified their Norwegian counterparts about the training missions, and that they wouldn't violate Norwegian air space.
And the same story from The Norway Post

On Friday Norwegian F-16 jet fighters from the Bodoe air base spent altogether 10 hours in the air, monitoring Russian military aircraft off the Norwegian coast.

From the early hours of the morning, 14 Russian jet bombers carried out strategic exercices in international airspace off the Norwegian coast. - It is the first time since the end of the cold war that the Russian military activity in the North has been at this high a level, says Bodoe Wing Commander Per Egil Rygg to NRK.

Also on Friday, President Vladimir Putin announced that the Russians have resumed their strategic long-distance flights on a permanent basis.

Putin said this at a press briefing during a joint Russian-Chinese military exersice in the Ural mountains.
Undersecretary of State, Espen Barth Eide says Norway has increased its military preparedness in the North, and sent extra fighter planes to Bodoe.

However, he underlines that the Russians had informed Norway about the exercices, and that the planes did not violate Norwegian airspace.

Unfortunatly it looks like this young Swede have been brainwashed by the socialist/communist media.
Normally these delusions will be counter mended when young men do their military service.
Today too few of our young men get a chance to turn into men in an invironment with a healthy opposing stand to the media, thus creating ignorance on many levels in our community.

His thoughts on the state of Israel are his and his alone.
It does in no way, shape or form indicate the official attitude towards a partner that the Swedish armed forces in some areas work very closely with.

Back to the regular programing of US are evil rants..

Too many people are not smart enough to realize that the media are not a neutral source of information, rather are a business whose profits depend on other people's miseries. And if there is little to pick from, they need to soup things up.
How someone can not trust the military, government or large corporations yet choose to believe news corporations is just beyond me.

I dunno, I realise that I'm no economic genius, but here we have a country that is so financially embarrassed that it claims that it cannot pay many of it's State employees, yet they feel that they do have the money and resources to put their Air Force back on a state of high readiness.

It beats me!

When the Federation collapsed the first time, it was found that "The Mighty Russia" was not all it was cracked up to be and hadn't been for many years, with such things as aircraft that were flown from base to base to create the illusion of a much larger force. The whole show had bumbled along for years on the edge of bankruptcy only kept going with some very creative book keeping. Suddenly they are going back to the plan that sent them broke the first time.

How much of this new effort is substance, and how much is show?

I don't think Putin would be stupid enough to do something that would bankrupt him. That's why he's doing this now and not five years ago.
