Russia will cross the "red line" if it stations Tu-160s in Cuba

It appears more like Russia is standing up to the US in an effort to counter its missile defense move on ex Soviet soil.

It's predicted that in less than 20 years China's GDP will exceed that of the United States and Russia's GDP will become higher than any EU state. The sooner this happens, the earlier we'll witness some very interesting geostrategic moves around the world.

The Italians used decoy aircraft to great effect at the beginning of WWII, before the Brits smartened up and realized that the planes were just dummies.

Serbians also used a lot of decoy crap against NATO in the Bosnia conflict. They improvised everything they could, from inflatable tanks to microwave ovens to simulate mobile radars. It seems usage of decoys will never go out of fashion.

Yes Lunatik, I assume so too (response to post #21) but they have been playing fart fart games with us for quite some time now, unfortunately, it seems, pretty much after President Bush praised Putin years ago (which I cringed when he said some of that stuff because I thought he was way off on that but obviously I wasn't in the meetings so I don't know what he based that praise on).

When Bush said that he looked into Putin's eyes and saw his soul, I knew that the Russians could get away with anything.

Everybody knows Putin sold his soul years ago. :)

Unfortunately, that was the time TOG, I didn't like that a bit. The other similar mistake was declaring victory and end of combat operation in Iraq. Very embarrassing.

Well put. We've been fighting in Iraq longer after the Mission Accomplished banner went up than before. It's still going on, with no end in sight.

In almost every G8 summit picture and other summits with Russia, Bush is always smiling, and Putin looks disgusted...

I would not consider Russia an ally like some peeps do, think its a bad mistake, same as China.

I do respect Putin, even though I don't trust him because he is still KGB at heart. Putin's also a longtime Judoka.

You guys think Putin is bad? Wait until Dmitry Medvedev gets comfortable in his new seat. This fellow won the election with 70% of the votes and Putin is his prime minister (also advisor) now. He was also Putin's chief of staff and a board member of Russia's largest gas company; Gasprom. I'm not a political/military analyst, but I'm seeing a very major energy-related conflict brewing. One that will see Russia make a pretty big military move, as the US did in Iraq and Afghanistan. And the EU might have to live throught at least one winter without Russian natural gas.

It explains why there are talks in Russia about constructing several new carrier battle groups and stationing some Tu-160 startegic bombers in Cuba... Man, something's cooking I'm telling you. :)

Medvedev. Putin's protege.

Oh, I know nothing of the new fella Lunatik, if Putin suggested him though like he did, he can't be good for us.
I have no doubt Russia and China is debating ways to do us ugly.

LOL, it'd be so funny to watch Putin and Bush have a good old fist fight.

And let's also throw in France's Sarkozy, Britain's old Blair, Iran's Ahmedinejad and North Korea's Kim Jong-il.

Get some popcorn and beer and enjoy! :)

Nah, I'd put my money on George Washington though. Reagan got to be pretty good under Master Norris at Camp David, and added 1 1/2 inches on his chest during his Presidency with Arnold.
Teddy Roosevelt (at the time) was first American to reach Brown Kyu, during his Presidency.

Little bit about Putin's Judo.....http://www.fightingarts.com/content01/putin.html

Anyways, either way this doesn't seem to work out well for us. We need the missile defense to assist allies and protect ourselves but if we do than Russia seems to be looking for anything to blame on an escalation of their military activity.

The income derived from oil and gas along with arms exports will enable the Russian armed forces to undertake a massive upgrade. Well used "Hi-tech" assets will be a major shift from the weight of numbers strategy of the cold war.

The USA will face a significant challenge in trying not only to win "The War on Terror", but trying also to balance a resurgent and more assertive Russia along with a fast growing China.

What is going to happen when the time comes that China can put Carrier Battle Groups off Taiwan?

What do you think happened after the fall the of the USSR? The U.S. had no enemy, small states, China, North Korea, the U.S. was scrambling for a new enemy. So then to replace the USSR, the U.S. settled for just about anything. Russia coming back may cause another cold war, and it will make the U.S. arms industry once again explode. Some retiring generels and ploticians will be getting rich, and U.S. armories will be stacked to the ceilings once again in our nation's history.

Russia want's to play economics again, they have picked the right time, all these new free socialist mircale programs promised before the elections, would socialize the U.S., it was capitalism and free interprise that help beat the Soviets, but Russia, with new guns and a backyard full of oil, may not go down so easily this time.

IF it happens that way, I think the only way we say it will happen that way is beacuase it is what we experianced before, and can't find some other explanation.
