VOLOGDA, October 15 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and Venezuela may finalize within a month a deal for a large number of BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles, a senior executive at Russia's arms export monopoly said Wednesday.
"In addition to the small arms, light weapons and ammunition delivered earlier, a large shipment of BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles is to be delivered," said Igor Sevastyanov, deputy general director of Rosoboronexport.
He added that the contract "could be signed within a month."
He also said negotiations were continuing on the sale of multiple rocket launchers and artillery systems.
In September, Russia agreed to provide Vemezuela with a $1 billion loan so that Caracas could buy TOR-M1 air defense systems, Igla-S portable SAM systems, Il-78 aerial tankers and Il-76 military cargo aircraft.
Between 2005 and 2007 Russia signed 12 contracts worth more than $4.4 billion to supply arms to Venezuela, including fighter jets, helicopters and Kalashnikov assault rifles.
Russia exports arms to about 80 countries, with Venezuela is among its biggest customers, along with China, India, Algeria, Iran, Malaysia and Serbia.

So what other goodies will follow this deal? I assume there's a slight tech level going from a AMX-30 to T-90s but I would think a tank order would follow the BMP-3's right?

I don't know a lot about Russia MLRS maybe somebody could fill in a few types.

I think Colombia has home made BTR-80s but I cant confirm that, I thought I had a source who knew but since changed his mind. I can find Colombian made BTR-80s on youtube but nowhere else. Again if somebody know please post a link.

I guess for right now BMP-3 are better suited for light bridges and jungle roads then tanks thus the reason for the BMP order? Besides mechanized wise Colombia has nothing to even match BMP-3 anyway. They have those nasty 30mm cannons on them.:2guns:

Still waiting for that big Chinese arms order to be place, much more then some K-8 trainers?

yes 5.56 but it is rather not to the point. No one questions western weapons can equal russian ones, the problem is the russians sell with no thought process involved.

I doubt it. South America isent grweat tank country as it is. Whats the point of getting T-90? The BMP 3 is classic for areas with bad bridges and roads. It light, amphibious, carries a serious punch(30mm, 100mm, ATGMs). In the right hands it is a match for MBTs like the Leo 1/AMX 30/M48/T-55 and so on...
