SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Running back Hakim Hill recently signed with the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders, saying it might be his last chance to play pro football because of his troubled past. His stay with the team didn't last long.
The Roughriders dismissed Hill on Thursday after learning of his arrest here last weekend on suspicion of disorderly conduct.
Scottsdale police said they were called to the Hotel Indigo early Saturday after employees asked officers to help stop a loud, persistent argument in the hallways.
Hill, 24, had stepped in the middle of a confrontation between his 27-year-old brother and two women and had been yelling at one of the women, police said. Hill flagged down one of the officers outside the hotel and offered him a wad of cash for a ride somewhere else, according to a police report.
Police took Hill in handcuffs to a city jail where they said a breath test found he was highly intoxicated, with a blood-alcohol level of 0.235.
Hill, the son of former NFL star receiver J.D. Hill, was kicked off the Arizona State team in 2004 for punching a teammate before a bowl game.
He transferred to Northern Iowa, but was dismissed for fighting with police officers in his hometown of Iowa City.
"Given Hakim's challenges in the past, this (is) a truly sad but necessary step we feel is in the best interest of our team," Roughriders general manager Eric Tillman said Thursday in announcing Hill's dismissal.
