BAGHDAD, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- A roadside bomb went off near a U.S. patrol
in eastern Baghdad on Wednesday, killing at least a civilian and wounding
another, a police source said.
"A roadside bomb went off at about 9:35 a.m. (0535 GMT) near a passing
U.S. patrol at an intersection in Zaiyounah neighborhood, killing a
civilian and wounding another," the source told Xinhua on condition of
anonymity.
It was not yet clear whether the U.S. troops sustained any casualties as
they sealed off the scene, preventing the Iraqi police from approaching the
area, the source added.
The blast occurred when over 50,000 Iraqi and U.S. troops have patrolled
Baghdad to quell sectarian violence and insurgency in the capital since
June.
