Rhodesia and South Africa

I realize the issue is a touchy subject with a lot of people, but the tactics employed by Fireforce, The Buff's etc. are very interesting.

When the ANC came into power in 1994, 32 Battalion was disbanded right away, my guess is, the ANC were terrified they would overthrow the government.

One of my buddies was part of 32 Battalion based along the Caprivi Strip (Narrow strip of land between Botswana and Angola, but belongs to Namibia, or German South West Africa as it was then) for operations into Angola, he doesn't say a lot, but after reading some of their operations, I don't envy him.

He is one of the nicest and genuine people you will ever meet, he's also kept his sense of humour.

A special anti crime police task force was set up by the ANC to combat serious crime known as the Scorpions. When the Scorpions began to target corrupt ANC ministers, they were quickly disbanded.

Once again, Africa wins...

The Scorpions had a crime clear up rate of over 93%, while the South African Police had a clear up rate of 6% over the same period, recent reports have shown this has dropped even further.

I am not surprised, even Jan Brink had some reluctant thoughts about the situation after the fall of the Apartheid regime.

He's not the only one.

A certain anti apartheid journalist in South Africa and firm supporter of the ANC is now beginning to admit that the ANC should never have come to power, they do not have the ability to control that power or what to do with it.

As one of my buddies said, "They couldn't organise a bunfight in a bakery."

A lesson taught after Rhodesia turned Zimbabwe, but it appears that someone failed to attend that particular lesson.

Sadly too many people have short memories

Or maybe just turn a blind eye to the realities, as those realities are located on the other side of the border it shouldn't be that hard to see the facts.
Who could have thought in 1980 that Rhodesia, a main exporter of agricultural products, would be on the verge of starvation and heavily dependent on imported food in a 30 years span of time... :???:

A few years ago before Mugabe went totally bonkers, I loaded my pickup truck and took the family on a safari through Nambia, Botswana, then ending up at Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. It was a fantastic place, overlanders trucks from Europe, even the good old Bedford RL 4x4 ex British Army trucks. All nationalities gathered either at the Safari camp or hotels. The Matabele are an amazing people even though they were disliked and often victimised by Mugabe's Shona tribe thugs.

There was a huge market next to the safari camp that sold a stunning collection of hand made wooden wildlife, baskets, figures of Matabele men and women, all hand carved, all sold for next to nothing. The idea was to barter, I didn't like the idea of bartering as the items were so cheap anyway and these people had nothing. My buddy told me I had to barter as it was something they loved to do. I came home with a beautiful hand carved basket, I would have loved to bring more home, but space was limited and some items were either too big or two fragile.

Today Victoria Falls is a ghost town because of Mugabe's policies, tourists have gone to the other side of Victoria Falls in Zambia.

Mugabe has a lot to answer for.

At times like this I find it very difficult to find the correct words to honour men such as these.

No disrespect was intended.

None was taken at all Brit. There are truly some forgotten warriors in this world.

I meant the date 11/11 for the song not your post, my fault.
