Is The Republican Party Cracking Up?

Indeed.

From my outsiders POV the Democrats are not even leftist, they are dead center.

While I would not consider the Democrats "dead center", the party could currently be considered more liberal and open to government control than the Republicans.

In order to get candidates elected it takes a majority of the votes, therefore a party that wins an election cannot be either "Far Right" or "Far Left".

As the original article quoted in this topic says,
"Forty-one percent of all voters nationwide say Republicans and Democrats were so similar that a new party was needed to represent America, results indicated."

This suggests that this "new' Tea Party would be made up of dissatisfied voters from both parties. If they turned out to be either far right or left then during an election they would take votes from the other parties candidate that seem to be closer to their view.

Ya, Republicans and Dems are just slighty off center in completely different directions. The Dems are for the most part, left of center and the Reps are right of it. The fringe types don't really garner any great support (number of voters) from either mainstream party in this country. I think the average American could be considered centrist and that's how Obama won the last election, by appealing to the center.

I think (I have just read by someone, don´t recall whether it was this forum or other, that Obama was "...a terrorist and terrorist supporter..." - though OTOH the person who wrote the comment was also feeling the obligation as US American to support the Prez no matter what, in order not to become a "traitor" to her country... Just the last half sentence deserves another thread in a democracy...) you Americans with your far left Fox "journalists" have to re-define the use of words, it seems the right, and especially the religious right (and whenever religion joins with politics it gives me the creeps, see Al Quaida or earlier the IRA) have been brainwashed by the neocons and their media into Orwellian Newspeak regarding the use of words like "Commies", Terrorists", "Far Left", "Socialism" etc. .

Sign of the times probably, as a Socialist here in Spain I get called "Fascist" by our Catalan and Mallorquin nationailsts when I suggest we all are Spanidards, same ridiculous take on words, as I said: Newspeak aka http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newspeak

I think whether something is left, right or center is determined by the individuals stance on the matter, if you are either far left or right then pretty much everyone else will be at the other end of the spectrum.

In terms of Orwellian Newspeak, you would have enjoyed the P80 years he could write pages full of it.

Yes, though 85+% of the Main Stream Media are Reg. Democrats I have seen many posts on other Forums from Liberals who thought the MSM was pro Bush.

But again it comes down to you own perspective, I am sure a "far left" person sees the media as right wing biased and from their perspective they are right.

These arguments about political leanings are in essence pointless because they only indicate the position of person making the statement, the vast majority of people I have met vary depending on topic being discussed for example it is not uncommon to find someone that is a social liberal (ie pro-right to choose/gay rights etc). and fiscally conservative (ie Deregulated economy and tax cuts etc.) it is often impossible categorise people as only left or right wing.

Indeed, you are fo cause right. Not oly from aphilosphical POV, but also frm a factual: Different political attitudes change the perception e.g. of an article or a news report posted, rightists will sum the same experience of words/pictures/sequences up differently from leftists. DOnt have the source handy right now, but it was one of the studies we scrutinized in my university time.
