Report: F-15 crash caused by jammed cable

taff report
Posted : Monday Oct 22, 2007 16:51:07 EDT A jammed control cable caused an F-15D Eagle to crash May 30 in rural Indiana, an Air Force accident investigation board concluded in a report issued Monday.
The pilot, Maj. Steven deMilliano, assigned to Missouri Air National Guard’s 131th Fighter Wing in St. Louis, safely ejected.
According to the Air Combat Command inquiry, a jammed aileron rudder interconnect crossover cable led to the crash. The investigation found that the cable was properly installed, inspected and maintained before the mishap.
Approximately 20 minutes into a basic flight maneuvers training mission, the jet quit responding to the pilot’s efforts to steer the fighter, the report said. The cable jammed while the aircraft was descending and in a left-hand turn, leaving the aircraft virtually unrecoverable.
