BAQUBA, Iraq, Aug 31, 2006 (AFP) - Insurgents killed eight people Thursday
in the restive Iraqi city of Baquba where a surge in sectarian violence has
left hundreds of people dead over the past few months, police said.

Gunmen stormed a shop in western Baquba's Yarmuk neighbourhood and shot dead
two brothers who owned the shop, police said.

A civilian driving in his car was killed and his three-year-old son wounded
when gunmen sprayed bullets on them in the town of Muqdadiyah, 45 kilometres
(28 miles) northeast of Baquba.

In Khan Bani Saad village, south of Baquba, gunmen ambushed two brothers who
were driving in a car and killed them on the spot.

A farmer was killed and his wounded when gunmen shot them in their farm in
the village of Quba, northeast of Baquba.

A civilian was also killed in a roadside bomb attack in Kanan district,
southeast of Baquba, while another man was shot dead in Baquba, police
added.

Another two were wounded in a mortar attack in the city's Tahrir
neighborhood.

The ethnically-mixed city of Baquba is a site of daily shootings and
bombings and on Wednesday at least 22 people were killed in and around the
city.
