Really need some information PLEASE READ

Alright zac these guys have a lot more experience then me so listen to them. Alternatively perhaps you would qualify for your reserves if not fulltime?

And also I don't have a lack of fitness, I play football and run every day, I'm trying to stay as fit as I can and im also trying to gain stamina to prepare for when this stuff actually comes down and lands in my face.

You will go through meps most likely more than once, talk with a recruiter and have hard copy of your med documents.

As for waivers, keep in mind, the wars in the Middle East will be coming to a close soon, recruiting standards are likley to go up and even for people in the miltary already are going to pressed to keep their jobs should they want to stay in.

Even from different branches like the Navy and USAF, recruiting entry standards are way up from even 20 years ago. Also I am pretty darn sure they will test you for asthma.

These guys giving you this advice in this thread speak of the greater truth.

Thirty years ago, there was a TV documentary following a group of recruits through basic training in the Parachute Regiment."The Paras".
Any of us UK guys remember it?
One guy hid his asthma when he joined, and when he started dropping out on runs, they sent him to the Medical Officer, where he admitted his condition.
He was out. "Ilegal Entry" marked on his papers.
I don't think that helped him find work afterwards, as it marked him as a dishonest person.
Asthma is a very complicated condition with numerous trigger factors.
It causes Broncho Spasm, a serious narrowing of the airways, and it is a killer. In extreme emergencies, a standard Ventolin/Salbutamol inhaler will not alleviate the condition and the patient will need hospitalisation
Its just not worth it.

Maybe he had severe asthma and it bothered him, mine isn't severe. I'm just gonna see how everything goes, I'm only 14 so maybe it will improve even more by the time I can join, I'm not just gonna give up on this because of this stupid condition that I have that doesen't even bother me and hasn't bothered me since I was a toddler, It's not worth not doing what I want to and trrying to accomplish something because I have the same problem millions of other people have. I'm sure theres many guys right now in the military with asthma and they got through with it. Im just gonna see what happens. Thanks for all your help guys

You have fighting spirit my friend.
Go for your dream - and take what comes.

Good luck mate :thumb:

Your body has never been exposed to the enormous pressure that occur during combat, so you don´t know how you will react.

It is a chance that you should not take - you can get your mates killed at that expense.

Sorry zaccs I have to agree with 42RM, you could be a liability to those around you in a combat situation.

But obviously check with your recruiter.

Go to a respiratory specialist.
Get checked out.
You can grow out of it, but get properly checked out.
If you have a clean bill of health from a specialist, then thats the bottom line.
Good luck, and all the best.

Remember if you fail on a mission it is not only your life at risk then it is all those that have to carry you, it is just not about what you want, it is about all your mates around you.

Go into intel or something like that, not all military jobs involve fighting and you'll still be serving your country. Just something to think about.

Nah I can't see myself doing that stuff Ranger, I want to fight. And I know Enfield. Just to make stuff clear I wouldn't even consider this if I knew that I would be a weak link to the guys around me, but this **** doesen't bother me anymore! Heres an example, totally different but at football, if some kid is falling behind or something, or needs help I'll go back and help him while everyone else goes ahead and runs, if a kid gets his bell rung I'll help him up and tell him he'll do better next time, it's not like this really bothers me and causes me to stop doing what I'm doing, my asthma rarely bothers me, I think if I ever do get the chance to serve that I would actually be a help to the guys around me, not a weak link thats gonna screw everything up and get people hurt. I'm just saying.

One of the facts of life you will have to learn is that never, under most any circumstance are you entitled to anything. It's apart of becoming an adult.

This can't be taught this and you will learn as you grow older.

I know I'm not entitled to anything, I know you need to earn the right to be a soldier, I'm just saying I don't want to just give up on this.

There seems little point in giving you advice on this matter as it appears that you know best. The one thing I am sure of that is if they accept you then the pressure they put you under during your training you will find out just how fit you are, and don't be to upset if you don't make it.

Ok, this is the truth..
You may not like it, you may not want to hear it but here it is.

I think you should be honest and try your best to reach your goal but if someone ie: your recruiter says you are a no go, be prepared for that and have a back up plan.
There are several ways you can serve your country besides chasing farmers trough the sticks of Afgh.

No one here has the day to day requirements for waivers and such so when you are old enough just go see your recruiter.
When you get there the economy may have changed and they take whatever trash comes through the door.
Or they may turn you away before the door closes behind you.

Whatever you do, DO NOT lie.
The rules are there because they have to be for the safety of you and your Team.
If it is waiverable, fine.
If not, seek employment elsewhere.
The life isn´t for everyone.

KJ sends..
