A real hero

Trooper1854

The Brit Pack
In my line of work I get to meet some real dregs of society.
But every so often I encounter a star.
The other day I was dealing with an old gentleman, he was 85, with breathing problems and while waiting for the Ambulance to back me up, I was on the Fast Response Car, I saw this photo on the wall:

185Sqn.jpg

It was him, taken on the 8th May 1945 (VE Day) at Campoformido North Italy.
He was a pilot in 185 (Malta) Squadron.
This was his personal plane, named after his sister, as he had no girlfriend.
The gent told me about his experiences, mainly fighting in the Mediterranian theatre, as we waited, and I told him how much I admired him and his fellow pilots, and ground crew for what they did in WWII to free the world from tyrany.
When I got to work today there was a brown envelope waiting for me with this photo in it and a thank you note.
He actualy thanked me. I am so humbeled by this.
His wife added a p.s. that he is on the road to recovery.:-D

In our line of work, when someone shows appreciation to the things that we do, it just makes everything worthwhile. It need not be a gift or things like that- a simple thank you, genuine and coming from the heart, is more than enough to make your day great.

Trooper, I envy you...
