Hello, I am 45 yrs old and a father and in perfect health. I raised 5 children and was hoping somebody could answer a few questions for me. I was in the Navy back in early 1981, I got out in late 1982. I did get a OTH (under honorable conditions) due to my being so young and stupid and drinking. I got an re-4 code. However, I never spent time in jail or anything else in my entire life. I have no criminal record or such at all. I again was young and stupid when I went in. I did go AWOL from it, but only for about a month. Is there anyway I can get this off my record?. And furthermore, I have always wanted to go back in again and enlist and prove the person I am. I stand behind the military 100%. Any ideas? Thaks again.

I have a GENERAL discharge. General (under honorable conditions). But a re-4 as a code. Can I ever change this or go back in and serve and prove myself. I have never been in the trouble with law, I do not have any sort of criminal record or anything else. This was back in Oct 1981. I am 45 yrs old and a dad. Any help. (Oh the reason I got out was being young and foolish and drinking, but again that was 28 yrs in the past. Thanks for any info.

First off alot of this stuff on here is b******t. I mean I understand that most people do not get a discharge upgrade but I do know people that got it and the ( RE-Code uprgrade as well) If You were discharged unfairly you can appeal it at the Board of corrections. Look up info for discharge upgrades.

IF YOU HAVE A DISCHARGE ( RE-4) CIVILIAN EMPLOYERS CANNNOT TELL EVEN IF YOU WERE IN THE ARMY UNLESS YOU TELL THEM. ITS A FACT. Those records are sealed and confidential. So however says it shows up on a background check is yanking your chain. I make 90,000 a year , much more then I ever would have made being in the military.

Aaaaaactually, it isn't "sealed" and "confidential," this isn't a TV show. Your military records are there for anyone that wants to take the time to file a FOIA request.

It won't show up on a background check, that's true. But an employer can (and has been known) to file a FOIA request. So, I'd mind my Ps and Qs and watch what I do so as not to get that dreaded RE-4 code.

Only had to deal with one RE-4. He had forged the commander's name on an AER loan, stolen appliances from a former landlord..and left them for the whole world to see in his next back yard.

RE-3 is rather common. That's where someone washes out during basic for one reason or another (other then physical, of course)

I need to know if someone can get a military ID card, use another person's GI Bill or be on any military installation if that person was RE4 from the Navy with a general under honorable conditions and an SPN code of JKA (alcohol, assault/battery and MAJOR anger issues), and wants to marry someone in another branch of service.

I have a RE-4 reenlistment code because I denied reenlistment. I cannot go back in but I still have an honorable discharge.

You denied reenlistment? I thought if you didn't reenlist they just let you go with a RE1 in case you changed your mind. I let my enlistment run out in 88, and got a Re1, went back in, in 89, after 11 months outside, now I'm a "disabled vet" been out since 99 and I have a RE3 Medical

Ok so your saying its for ALL the REALLY bad stuff correct? The re-4! I enlisted when I was 18 years old into the NAVY I was in boot camp for like 45 days and failed like the 6th drug test they had gave me after I had passed the other 5 to get in. I use to smoke weed before I went in and when we did all the PT it finally came out of my very little body fat i had (5%) into my urine and i failed the tes. I WAS THEN DISCHARGED ELS WITH AN RE-4. That was about 11 years ago. So my question is theres really no way to change it so that I can try to rejoin??
