U.S. military authorities held preliminary hearings Friday in Iwakuni in southern Japan to determine whether four Marines charged with raping a 19-year-old Japanese woman last year should be court-martialed. Two of the Marines also were accused of stealing money from the woman. The hearings came as anger continued to rise on the southern island of Okinawa over the arrest this week of another serviceman on suspicion of raping a 14-year-old girl.
