Question about deceased military members abroad.

I was hoping someone could tell me what the protocol is these days for the informing of the family of a deceased member of the military. Does it vary between branches of service? Does it involve the Bureau of Consular Affairs? Is it still a group of two military officers and a chaplain?

There are no official information sites that I could find that describe how this takes place, but I'm interested to know. If any of you know the answer to these questions and any other information that might be helpful or interesting, that would be great. Thanks.

There is a reason it's not described. And why I will not post it. The reason is this too many false condolence calls were paid to Marines families during the Gulf War, by imposters.
