I spent a few days in working in Burlington and got to drive around a bit before leaving. Of course I had to go up to Dakins' Farm and buy some maple syrup and candy. Also made the teddy bear factory. Do you know the history of a huge rock island in Lake Champlain? The natives call it "Dunder".

Thanks for the nice comments folks. I've been to 47 states and 21 countries but I love my home the best.

Yes, Missileer, I know the story of the god turned to stone. There's a very fine ale you can get here called "Rock Dunder Brown Ale". Those interested can see a pic of Dunder rock and get a synopsis of the story here:

BTW, there are "officially" no "natives" left. The Abnakis are fighting for recognition as a tribe even now and have done so for decades. The state believes that they have become too watered down by caucasian blood to qualify. But the art, the history, and the culture still exist. If the Native Americans can have a casino in Connecticut, I think the Abnakis here can be recognized as a tribe. They've asked only for that and not for government aid or a casino.

Oh yeah, Dakins Farm is run out of New Jersey. If you want _real_ Vermont syrup see a farmer.

Man, I love the Autumns there. God's paint pallette. Beautiful house. The Colonists were said to have rowed out to Dunder and put lanterns on it and the British fired cannon and rockets at it all night thinking it was some American plot or ship or something.
