Bulgaria To Test 1st Upgraded MiG-29 Fighter

26 November 2007, Monday

Bulgaria's air force is set to test the first Russian-make MiG-29 fighter jet upgraded to meet NATO standards on Tuesday, weather permitting.
"Everything is ready and we will hold the first flight test, if the weather conditions are good," Emilian Dikov, head of the plant near Plovdiv that carried out the upgrade, was quoted as saying by local daily Trud.
The pilots will test the handling of jet's hydraulic, navigation, communications and fuelling systems in flight conditions. Bulgaria has currently six MiG-29 fighter jets in flying condition, and another 16 in line for upgrades. Bulgaria has to modernise its armed forces in line with NATO standards, having joined the organisation in 2004.
