Poll: Best Artillery System ever

Ok Gunners

Which Field Artillery System do you think had the greatest impact on War. Which weapon are the most innovative or historically significant. Anti-Tank/Anti Aircraft are permitted but only in large bore. 40mm Bofors don't count.

My list is as follows

10 Pound Parrot
6 pound Napoleon
12 pound Napoleon
French 75 Modele 1897
M114 155mm 'Long Tom'
German PAK 88
M109 Paladin

Feel free to add to the list, agree/disagree.

In my opinion, the M110 8 Inch SP was the best Gun on the battlefield all around, after that and for greater distance it would be the M107 175mm SP Gun, then the M109A6 155mm Paladin using the RAP Round for greater range on the Gun, if need be.

The best ever was the Paladin - until now. It's decendant the Crusader is being used by the Germans (or at least the Military Channel says so). A shame the US created it but doesn't have it. :(

As for most historically significant that would have to be the French 75 Modele 1897. That gun put an end to having to relaying the gun after every round and changed artillery forever. That gun was why WWI was an artillery war and why artillery is still the weapon that inflicts the most casualties on the enemy - other than aircraft of course.

These weapons span quite a long period in history.

For it's time, I like the French 75 Mod. 1897, I feel it was the first truly "modern" field piece and affected the development of all those that followed it, incorporating many ideas that are still in service and haven't been greatly improved upon like the interrupted screw breech and integral hydraulic recoil system. The first Quick Firing artillery piece.

I agree. Its recoil system was nothing short of revolutionary. It was so revolutionary that it was a state secret until the start of WWI.
 
Archer is going to take the crown, for truly "mobile" artillery.
The Paladin,NLOS and the German PZH 2000 are great to.
The NLOS is a replacement for the Crusader, the Crusader is a "dead" program. It got canceled in 2002.

The Crusader is a U.S design that was placed on the shelf due to funding, the Germans do not use it because they have their fairly new system called PZH2000, which is rated as one of the best Self propelled guns in the world for a European fight, they seem to have some barrel overheating issues currently though while in use in Afghanistan.
