Polk soldier killed in training exercise

FORT POLK, La. — A Fort Polk soldier has died of injuries received during a training accident at the base.
The soldier, whose identity hasn’t yet been released, was medically evacuated from the site at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital, where officials pronounced the soldier dead about 30 minutes later.
Media relations chief Samantha Evans said Thursday that the soldiers were doing convoy training but said she didn’t know any specifics about the training.
Evans said the identity of the soldier and details about the incident will be released as soon as family is notified.
The incident is under investigation.
