Polish army in Egypt

I recently found out that my late father, Roderick (Rory) Langford-Rae, who had been first in the Oxford & Bucks and then in the Grenadier Guards, was "decorated by the General Commanding the Polish Forces in Egypt for work there at the early age of twenty-one" and I know that this work was as a negotiator of some kind.

He was born in Janaury 1927, so assuimg he told the truth about his age, that means he did the work he was decorated for in 1948.

I know what the Polish Army were doing in Egypt during WWII - but what would they have been doing there in 1948, and what negotiations would these have been?
