KILLEEN — The death of a Fort Hood soldier whose body was found at his off-post apartment is being investigated as a homicide, police said Wednesday.
Killeen police identified the victim as Staff Sgt. Ryan Michael Sullivan, 24. He was with the 1st Cavalry Division's Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team. Fort Hood officials declined to release his hometown.
Sullivan's body was discovered Tuesday when he did not show up for duty and officers were sent to his home.
A statement from Killeen police said the preliminary investigation showed signs of foul play. No information was released on potential suspects.
Autopsy results are pending from the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
Six other soldiers from various units have died at Fort Hood in separate incidents since late July. One died in a fire that authorities were investigating, and one died of a medical condition. Authorities have not said how the other four died.
The sprawling Central Texas Army post just outside Killeen is home to about 52,000 troops.
