PBS will provide preliminary funding for a two-hour documentary that focuses on Latinos in the U.S. military. Hector Galán will direct The War Within, tentatively set to air in September 2011. Galán helped provide footage about Hispanic war veterans for Ken Burns' multi-part World War II PBS series, The War, in 2007. That came after Hispanic groups protested that Hispanics had been left out of Burns' 14½-hour project. About a half-hour of footage was added to the series, including interviews with a Native American and two Hispanic war veterans.
