Patriot Act might be finally dead...

Just saw on the news that the extension was defeated in the house. Dunno if there is another vote or amendments scheduled or not.

I'd be glad to see it defeated completely.

Was never a fan of giving the government that much control. One of the things that I did not approve President Bush of pushing and supporting.... one of the many things I did not approve of the Democrats (Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi & President Obama) supporting and renewing when they were in Power back in 2010.

The three sections that Obama extended: -Authorize court-approved roving wiretaps that permit surveillance on multiple phones. -Allow court-approved seizure of records and property in anti-terrorism operations. -Permit surveillance against a so-called lone wolf, a non-U.S. citizen engaged in terrorism who may not be part of a recognized terrorist group.

In a vote on February 8, 2011, the House of Representatives considered a further extension of the Act through the end of 2011. House leadership (Under Republican control) moved the extension bill under suspension of the rules, which is intended for noncontroversial legislation and requires two-thirds majority to pass.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USA_PATRIOT_Act#cite_note-politico-vote-175 After the vote, the extension bill did not pass; 277 members voted in favor, which was less than the 290 votes needed to pass the bill under suspension of the rules.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USA_PATRIOT_Act#cite_note-politico-vote-175 Without an extension, the Act is set to expire on February 28, 2011.

Later in the Session a simple majority is all that will be needed, & they had enough votes for that.
