Pat Robertson's latest revelation

This man makes me slightly regret free speech!
Pat Robertson gives evangelical Christians a bad name. Now he's apparently asserting that Ariel Sharon's stroke happened because God was mad at him for withdrawal from Gaza!!

I am a Christian and what comes out of this guys mouth is nothing more that sheer idiocy. He really ought to read the Bible he tries to preach from...

Mods - I know that he is a "religeous figure" but I figured I could put it under the politics section because he's run for President before...
Apologies in advance if I figured incorrectly.

I actually was about to make a thread on this but Pat Robertson beat me to it.

If I may jump on this bandwagon here I have a question to ask.

For those of you who believe in a god and that everything happens for a reason (I don't) do you think that it's just coincidence that Prime Minister Rabim and now Arial Sharon both where the two biggest proponents of a peaceful settlement in the last 15 years and both have been seriously incapacitated in that quest. Do you think that happened for a reason, or is it just another coincidence?

I believe that everything does happen for a reason. I just don't believe that neither I, nor Pat Robertson know what God's reason is. So he should just keep his mouth shut rather than blathering on like an idiot.
He should concentrate on getting his taxes right instead - that seems to give him a lot of trouble...

Well I must admit I like the guy. I thought I was an idiot but I look like an humoristic midget compared to him. I'm still hoping for my own tv-show.

Beside that I also think the trash that flows from his mouth is inconsistent:

"He was dividing God's land, and I would say, 'Woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the [European Union], the United Nations or the United States of America,'" Robertson told viewers of his long-running television show, "The 700 Club."
"God says, 'This land belongs to me, and you'd better leave it alone,'" he said.

If he is such a firm believer and quotes God by saying "'This land belongs to me" Why give woe to just the Isreali pm? And why would God let it get separated over the years? Already so many why's over this little piece of nonsence.
Netanyahu will keep it seperated too, only with less territory for the Palestinians. Anyway..... verbal trash plain and simple (and a tat amusing)

Well hey it's just another interpretation of the Holy Book. As an agnostic I ask you guys: How do you know God is not mad at Sharon for the withdrawal? Why is God always supposed to agree with our concept of "good"?

It isn't a question of "knowing" but a question of "believing". The first one needs to be proven and the latter doesn't! That is what makes faith such a handy tool to many who wish to abuse it...

Hear, hear! Listen to the man.

What former and latter are you referring to?

I think the former, "knowing" is something tangible or proven whereas the latter, "believing" is something taken on faith such as an unseen God. He's saying both can be used by someone for his own purposes, good or bad. Like saying PM Sharon was punished by God.

No possible way. One just has to take it on what he believes. I personally believe that a man PM Sharon's age and physical condition is prime for a stroke or heart attack. God had nothing to do with it. We were supposedly given free will and God wouldn't interfere.

That was kind of my point - I don't know. And neither does Mr Robertson.
From a strictly Biblical standpoint (which Mr Robertson says he believes...) there is simply no basis for his argument.

The Bible says that God will do what he will do and no man can understand his ways ( it says this in many places I can provide references if anyone is interested but I don't really want to turn this into a Bible discussion). If he really believes the Bible (as it is written) then he can't say this kind of stuff; unless he thinks HE is god...

My main point was that it is just a really foolish thing to say - even IF it is true - and it just makes Christians in general look foolish. Mr. Sharon has a family and they don't need to hear this kind of garbarge regardless of the differences in their faith.
Many people seem to associate what he says with what Christians believe - and it's just not the case.

Yes I definitely agree with you guys after I heard your explanations and specifications. We don't know, and neither does Mr Robertson.

Well I like to take things in their correct context. Let me see what I can find. Oh here's a list.

The 10 Stupidest Things Pat Robertson Ever Said

10) "Over 100 years, I think the gradual erosion of the consensus that’s held our country together is probably more serious than a few bearded terrorists who fly into buildings." –Pat Robertson, on the dangers of judicial activism

9) "Lord, give us righteous judges who will not try to legislate and dominate this society. Take control, Lord! We ask for additional vacancies on the court." –Pat Robertson

8 ) "Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again.
It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history." –Pat Robertson

7) "I would warn Orlando that you're right in the way of some serious hurricanes, and I don't think I'd be waving those flags in God's face if I were you, This is not a message of hate -- this is a message of redemption. But a condition like this will bring about the destruction of your nation. It'll bring about terrorist bombs; it'll bring earthquakes, tornadoes, and possibly a meteor." –Pat Robertson, on "gay days" at Disneyworld

6) "(T)he feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians." –Pat Robertson

5) "I know this is painful for the ladies to hear, but if you get married, you have accepted the headship of a man, your husband. Christ is the head of the household and the husband is the head of the wife, and that's the way it is, period." –Pat Robertson

4) "I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected him from your city. And don't wonder why he hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, don't ask for his help because he might not be there." --Pat Robertson, after the city of Dover, Pennsylvania voted to boot the current school board, which instituted an intelligent design policy that led to a federal trial

3) "God considers this land to be his. You read the Bible and he says 'This is my land,' and for any prime minister of Israel who decides he is going to carve it up and give it away, God says, 'No, this is mine.' ... He was dividing God's land. And I would say, 'Woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the E.U., the United Nations, or the United States of America.' God says, 'This land belongs to me. You better leave it alone.'" --Pat Robertson, on why Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suffered a massive stroke

2) "Maybe we need a very small nuke thrown off on Foggy Bottom to shake things up" –Pat Robertson, on nuking the State Department

1) "You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with." –Pat Robertson, calling for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez

Bonus Stupid Quote:

"Wait a minute, I didn't say 'assassination.' I said our special forces should 'take him out,' and 'take him out' can be a number of things, including kidnapping." –Pat Robertson, clarifying his call to assassinate Hugo Chavez

Extra Bonus Stupid Quote:

"Is it right to call for assassination? No, and I apologize for that statement. I spoke in frustration that we should accommodate the man who thinks the U.S. is out to kill him." –Pat Robertson

Comedy of Errors.

:sorry: I"m not sure that this is the proper thread for this particular topic.

I'M PRETTY SURE THAT IT FALLS UNDER "MY FAVORITE COMICS".

In order to accept Robertson's statement as being a reasonable and proper statement, he would have to be able to read the mind of god.

I AM POSITIVE THAT WHEN ROBERTSON TALKS TO GOD, GOD DOESN'T REALLY TALK TO PAT (OR DOES HE?). Pat Robertson stands in front of the world's population and with absolute fervor, tells you that he can read the mind of god (and does it with a straight face).

If you read just a few of Pat Robertson's past statements, you would swear that he was rehearsing a stand-up comic's routine.

The problem though, is that Pat Robertson is viewed by many people in the United States and abroad, as the poster child of the Christian religion.

THE REST OF THE WORLD (HOWEVER) DOESN'T REALIZE JUST HOW MUCH OF A WACKO PAT ROBERTSON REALLY IS.

He is doing more in just one statement to make enemies in the Mideast, than anything either of the Bush's have done during their terms of office.

HOW SAD - THE CHRISTIAN RIGHT HAS STRUCK AGAIN AND IT WILL BE OUR TROOPS THAT WILL REAP THE WHIRLWIND ROBERTSON HAS STIRRED UP.
