Apparently the Health care plan for the U.S. passed....both houses....We are all Socialists now ;(.... One slide to the left to wards Marxism and the socialists dream, now all we have to look forward to is a bigger deficit, an inefficient health care plan and bigger taxes and the halt to economic progress in the Medical companies and private insurance, which like all companies have one goal in the pr oven capitalist system, to make a profit and promote competion....It's ironic to think that this system won us reunion in a Civil War, helped bring victory in two World Wars, and helped bring down a Super Power... And now we go to wards the inefficient route. The death of the Capitalist dream ;(

HURRAY FOR MARXISM!

Is this the thing about Obama bringing in free health care? If so, I'm sad it's not in place. Us British rather like the free health care. Fair enough it doesn't have brilliant funds or anything but it means everybody and anybody can be treated.

Why don't you want the health plan to pass though? I think free health care would be a great idea! Everybody can be treated meaning everybody is equal. I believe in America you have to pay for insurance for health care to be treated right?

Please don't start this tired old argument again.

Yin717, look around in the political discussions and you'll find a plethora of opinions for your edification.

Everyone on earth save for about 50% of America feels that way.

Apparently we're freer if we're broke. :???:

My little experience of American Health System is nearly 40 years old, but based on that, you certainly need a Health care system. It should be part of your Social security system.

Yeah, I know that these things can be abused, but it's up to the taxpayers to keep people honest.

I'm sure that the Australian Medicare system would be well ahead as far as I'm concerned, and I'll be very happy if it stays that way.

Yeah considering the sort of country the United States is, the state of health care coverage is pretty pathetic. It needs to be fixed. As for government spending, I think we all know where most of the money is draining out of.
I refuse to believe that what other countries can make run propery as a public service the United States can't.

Actually, your experience with the American system would be sadly up to date, because our system hasn't really changed that much in the past forty years.

Most of the shows on wierd health problems show strange illnesses, & when they get to the part of treating the problem I rarely see them going to Canada, UK, france, or Oz, usually it's the US.

And most of the SHOWS have the backing of wealthy people who can afford to send people to the United States. George, as we've said SO MANY COUNTLESS TIMES, it's not the quality of health care, it's the PRICE of it.

Actually, I can't think of any TV show that goes to Oz.

I thought this argument/red herring had been shot down in flames months ago, no one is saying the the USA does not have the best health care money can buy they are saying that 30-50 million people do not have the ability to buy that health care.

I would suggest that many of us outside the USA listen to the arguments against the health care bills and what what we hear is not "this is a bad system because...[insert reason]" or " I think [insert own idea here] would be a better system" but more "I am to miserable and self centered to help my own less fortunate countryman/woman", PS Obama sucks".

+ 1 MontyB
And don't forget to add: "We Americans are too incompetent to make a public health care system (that most other developed countries manage to run successfully) work."
Seriously.

Hey the people have been doing a fine job in my eyes through private enterprise for years now, the dollar being the incentive to make people work, now with the U.S. government running the show, I see it going waaaay downhill, inefficient underpaid medical workers with little incentive to over achieve and a soon to be overburdened system in my eyes, that will soon drive tax rates way up hurting economic progress in a already troubled economy else where.

I guess you can say I am a capitalist, and I see lack of two thing here, INCENTIVE, and of course EFFICIENCY.

There's no proof that this guestimate is accurate, nor any proof that, even if it is, that they can't afford coverage. Many young people are in the "invincible" stage of life & see no need for HC coverage, but see a pressing need for IPods, laptops, new cars, ect. Then there's the "study" the Libs were touting recently that polled people 15-20 years ago. Anyone who said they didn't have coverage back then & since died was assumed by proponents that they never did buy coverage & the lack of coverage was the cause of death, a real stretch.

Arent you forgetting someone?

The 46 Million Americans that have no health insurence because they cannot afford it? The problem isnt quality its cost. So how do you force HMOs to lower prices and to play fair? They have had 40 years to regulate themselves, they have absolutely refused to do so -why should they be allowed to keep their monopoly? HMOS even have an exclusion from Federal antitrust laws, they are untouchable.

You make them! By putting in a Public system to compete against them it will force the HMO to play ball.

I dont understand what you are complaining about, the Public System is optional, it mainly covers those unable to by the exhorbitant premiums demanded by HMOs. HMOS are a Trillion Dollar industry that has had its way for decades, they are terrified Obama is going to kill their Golden Goose.
