ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Two local intelligence officials say troops and tribesmen opened fire when two U.S. helicopters crossed into Pakistan from Afghanistan.
Pakistan's army and the U.S. military in Afghanistan said they had no information on the alleged incident late Sunday in North Waziristan.
The two intelligence officials spoke on condition of anonymity Monday because they were not authorized to speak to media. They cited field informants.
A spate of U.S. crossborder operations — including a ground assault that used helicopters to ferry American commandos — has prompted official Pakistani protests in recent weeks.
The U.S. is concerned that pockets of Pakistan's northwest have turned into bases for al-Qaida and Taliban militants.
