The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) salutes male hair care leader Sport Clips for their ongoing commitment to keeping America’s heroes connected with their loved ones.
Beginning October 18, Sport Clips stores across the country will begin collecting donations for VFW Operation Uplink™, the VFW program that provides free phone time to America’s service members and hospitalized veterans.

On Veterans Day, November 11, this major effort will culminate with “The Biggest Haircut Day of the Year.” On that day, the company will donate a dollar for every haircut given in its more than 600 stores. Show your support for troops and veterans by getting your next haircut at Sport Clips.

Sport Clips hopes to raise $125,000 or more to provide thousands of minutes of free calls during the upcoming holiday season. This is the third year the company has undertaken a Veterans Day campaign. Their generosity—and that of their patrons—has already delivered more than three million minutes of talk time to America’s defenders.

It is a great program, but it is 3 million phone calls and 37million minutes. Isn't clear in the report on the link, but VFW uses donations also for indiviual phone cards for military in hospitals and locations that don't have the central phone locations.

October 18, 2009 is VFW Salutes the Armed Forces Operation Uplink Free Call Day!

Troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait can call the U.S for free for a full 24 hours courtesy of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Free Call Days are available at more than 800 MWR internet cafes using SPAWAR located on military instillations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait.

Take advantage and call your loved ones!

Soldiers, to place a call, use regular dialing procedures using your SPAWAR prepaid PIN, if you do not have a PIN number, get one from the cafe manager. You will hear the sponsor announcement informing you that your call is FREE!
