I am responding to a member who wanted to find out something about the 99th Division. My book, which is based on interviews with more than 350 veterans, is a narrative history (beginning with Pearl Harbor and ending with tearful family reunions in late 1945) focuses on the experiences (in training and in combat), actions, emotions, attitudes, and hardships of these young GIs. It is war from the point of view of the ordinary rifleman. A powerful, vivid and candid read.
